Your non-dues revenue strategy should be ever-evolving. And with fall right around the corner, what better time to try a few new tactics?

Celebrate the season and raise a little extra money for your association or chamber of commerce with one (or more) of these fall fundraising ideas:

1. Sell fall-themed baked goods

Think about your organization’s upcoming events. Do any of them lend themselves well to a little “baked goods sale” add-on? (A monthly or quarterly breakfast/luncheon would be perfect! Think banana bread, apple cinnamon doughnuts, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies...the list goes on and on.)

Now you can either buy and resell the baked goods (ideally with sponsor help), have a team of volunteers help bake the treats, OR partner with a local bakery. (If they’re not a sponsor, perhaps they could donate a percentage of the proceeds to your organization.)

Seasonal treats are somewhat limited; they’re typically only available during that particular season. What that means is, people are more inclined to buy them.

A tasty treat for them and a little extra non-dues revenue for you!

2. Auction off a fall basket

Again, this is a great add-on to an event you’re already planning - a fall trade show, for example. What would go in a fall basket you ask? Get creative! A pumpkin-shaped mug. A spiced cider candle. Apple cider and/or toasted marshmallow K-Cups.

Tailor the goodies to your audience and you’re bound to see some interest!

3. Host a simple wine or beer tasting event

Typically, you need a lot of time to plan and promote an event. But if time and resources do permit, consider hosting a very simple wine or beer tasting event. (You could even cap attendance, if needed.)

This would be another area where you’d want to identify a sponsor, if possible. Do you have any local breweries (or wineries) you could partner with? Or would CVBs from around the state be willing to provide a local beer for attendees to taste? (Bonus points if you can gather special fall flavors!)

It could be your own little Oktoberfest, if you’d like to market it as such. Or it could be as simple as a “Hoppy Fall Beer Tasting Event.” (We bet you there are some people out there willing to cheers to a new season - and cooler temps, especially!)

4. Host a fall/Halloween-themed trivia night

Last but not least, let’s talk trivia. All you’d really need for this would be a casual space for attendees to gather - a private room or section of a sports bar or pub, for example. Then, with the help of a few volunteers, you could gather and ask a series of fall and/or Halloween-themed trivia questions. For example, in which country did Halloween originate? (Answer: Ireland!)

This is a particularly good event for young professionals, if you’re struggling to engage that group. You could call it “Brews and Q’s!”
